Do authors like Ray Bradbury, Jack Kerouac, and other famous novelists use symbolism intentionally?

In the 1960s, a high school student submitted an email to 150 well known authors asking weather or not they intentionally used symbolism in their writing.  75 authors responded to his query.  Here’s what they had to say.

The Moon

poetry about the moon

The mass mind of man opens up to the moon, seeking to absorb knowledge and through knowledge power, but the moon rejects its youthful passions as playthings and pushes its advances away.

Man lands on the Moon.

Man colonizes the moon.

Man buries the peace and symbolism the moon held for faded cultures and customs.

Man buries the moon in expansionist filth.

Goodnight moon.

R.I.P Ray Bradbury. The Martian Chronicles was an absolutely amazing collection

The Martian ChroniclesThe Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beautiful, well written, and invigorating. This is one of the most well written short story collections I have ever read. This book opened up science fiction as a genre I can truly enjoy. The fact he has died today truly brings today a certain foreboding weight.
