Self-Published Author Darrel Drake

Darrel Drake is fantasy fiction author who has spent his writing years teaching himself through constant reading.  He has not earned himself any noteworthy literary achievements, but that’s not his focus.  His focus is telling the story, conveying the message and tale that he feels the overpowering need to write.
Darrel himself bluntly stated, “My first novel was Within Ruin. I’m sure no one will pick it up two centuries from now and bellow, “Masterpiece!” That’s fine. It’s a story I was compelled to tell. Compelled. I’m sure I’m not the first author to be assaulted by unremitting noise such that idle hands quickly grow maddening. I’d imagine it’s a common thing, that buzzing.”
Here are summaries of his novels, Within Ruin and Everautumn.
WITHIN RUIN

Virgil, the weaver sovereign. A master of thaumaturgy, he works sleeplessly to reclaim the might of a shattered kingdom and reforge the love he once knew.

Descarta, the queen confined. She detests her domineering king and the role he’s forced upon her. Like clockwork, he haunts her every night with beside incantations, ostensibly to heal her and return normalcy.

When Virgil offers Descarta a chance to journey beyond the ramparts in search of a cure for the blight crippling their realm, she eagerly accepts. They set out with his elven wards, clingy and erratic creatures, and Descarta comes to discover a world darker and more caustic than she could have imagined-one dominated by mighty magics, beastly foes and great secrets. The quest before them is rife with hazards both hidden and behemoth. Only by enduring the precipitous path can the royal pair find what they seek. And learn that even ruin can bring about the deepest of relationships.

EVERAUTUMN

Undeath meant only that they could wait forever.

Everautumn is a realm beyond common reality and common knowledge. Where retching volcanoes, unrelenting heat and ashen forests canopied with tufts of flame dominate scarcely hospitable terrain. A realm in the midst of conflict spanning millennia.

Almi and Merill have died. Their hearts no longer beat in the fashion they once did. Extirpated and deposited in the harsh, lava-sown world of Everautumn, they now survive as something seated between elf and undead. For six years they have endured, because they trust he will come.

Accompanied by Descarta, the artificial weaveress; Elissa, the once-forgotten daughter; and Hafstagg, the paunchy warrior, Virgil has been sailing in search of a way to keep his promise to revive the elven twins. And he will stop at nothing to do so.

Everautumn plans to challenge that.
